Today I have the wonderful Lucy Felthouse as my guest! Lucy has written a wide variety of romance – from M/H to M/M, short stories to novellas, and paranormal to BDSM – Lucy has no limits to the wonders she writes. 🙂
Today she’ll be telling us about herself and her novel, Stately Pleasures. Please join me in welcoming her and feel free to leave a comment or two.
When and why did you begin writing?
I’ve been writing ever since I could hold a pen. As a child I was always telling everyone that when I grew up, I was going to be an author. So I guess it was always going to happen.
I started writing for publication in university. I was there doing a degree in Creative Writing, and someone dared me to write an erotic story. I did, and found I enjoyed it! I penned a couple more, and one of my first stories got taken by a magazine called Scarlet which sadly is now no longer publishing. I quickly got addicted to seeing my name in print. My second publication was in Xcite Books’ Seriously Sexy 3, and I’ve never looked back!
What is your favorite thing about writing?
Getting published and getting good feedback from readers. When you’re writing something it’s pretty much impossible to know if it’s any good or not. Or you might think it is, but others might not agree. So to have an editor accept it for publication, and then for readers to enjoy it is the ultimate validation!
Do you have a specific writing style?
I just write what comes naturally and don’t worry too much about the nitty gritty. But I’m told my sex scenes are very hot, and that my stories often have touches of humour, whether I intend them to or not.
What do you find is the hardest thing about being an author?
The waiting. Once you’ve actually finished a book (which is hard work in itself!), there’s lots of waiting. Waiting until you’re removed enough to edit your book, waiting for beta readers to go through it, waiting to hear back when you’ve sent it to an editor, waiting for it to be published… the list goes on. I’m used to it now though and because I’m always working on something new, I don’t really have time to worry about what’s happening with another piece of work until I get some news, which I think is the best way.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I’m a huge fan of Richelle Mead. I read everything she puts out, whether it’s the urban fantasy stuff or the young adult. I can’t quite put my finger on why I enjoy her books so much. I suppose it’s lots of reasons—she creates characters you care about, excellent plots and great settings. I devour her books in a couple of sittings, they’re just so easy to read and absorbing.
What inspired you to write Stately Pleasures?
After several years of writing short stories, I finally moved into novellas, and I thought it was high time I moved into full length novels. Various reasons and fears stopped me from doing this for a while, but once I set my mind to it, I did it. I love stately homes and historical sites, and the idea had been bubbling around in the back of my mind for a couple of years, so once I sat down and started planning it, I found there was more detail in my brain about the book than I’d first thought. I started writing and quickly got hooked—there was no way I was going to abandon the book before it was finished.
Was there anything you found particularly challenging when writing Stately Pleasures?
Moving into full length novels from short stories and novellas presented a huge learning curve. I was worried about there not being enough plot for a full novel, that the characters wouldn’t be interesting enough, that I couldn’t keep a reader’s interest, that there would be inconsistencies… the list goes on. But I managed to overcome those fears and write a book, and I learned from the experience and now apply what I learned to any other novels I write.
How did you come up with the title Stately Pleasures?
To be honest, I can’t remember. It just came naturally, I think. It fitted the book, hinted at what it was about and gave a good idea of the genre, so I stuck with it.
If you were to give your book a Heat Rating, (lowest) 1—simmering, 2—sizzling, 3—on fire, or 4—blazing (highest), which would it be and why?
I would say 4. It’s an erotic romance novel, but it’s also a ménage and it’s also packed with BDSM. It’s a very, very kinky book, possibly the kinkiest I’ve written and people that enjoy bondage, domination, submission and spanking will hopefully enjoy the read.
What’s next for you?
A million and one things! I have several WIPs on the go, as well as a novel to edit, get off to beta readers, re-edit, then send to my editor. I’ve also got an anthology to co-edit and put out there… I never stop!
Alice Brown has just landed her dream job. Property manager at Davenport Manor, a British stately home. It’s only a nine-month contract to cover maternity leave, but it’s the boost up the career ladder she so desperately needs.
Unfortunately, things don’t get off to the best start, when Alice finds her boss, Jeremy Davenport, in a compromising position. Far from being embarrassed by what’s happened, Jeremy turns things around on Alice and makes her out to be the one in the wrong. So when he and his best friend and head of security, Ethan Hayes, then throw an ultimatum at her, she’s so stunned and confused that she goes along with their indecent proposal.
When the dust settles and Alice has time to think about things, though, she realises that perhaps it isn’t such a bad thing. There are worse things she could be doing to advance her career, after all.
Now she stood naked before the two men, and resisted the temptation to try and cover herself up. It wouldn’t work, anyway. She’d need two hands to cover her large breasts, and that would leave her neatly trimmed pussy on display. So she stood with her hands by her sides, waiting for the next command.
It was Ethan who spoke first. ‘Fuck. I’m rock hard already. She’s just stunning, isn’t she? I must confess I’ve been looking forward to this task for some time.’ He rubbed his hands together gleefully.
Alice remained still and silent.
‘She’s being very obedient, isn’t she?’ Jeremy moved over to where she stood and walked around her naked form. ‘Do you think we’ve turned her into a proper little submissive?’
Alice’s cheeks flamed at his words. How dare he say such things about her? And yet, other than the heat burning across her chest, neck, and cheeks, she made no response. So perhaps he was right – under the care, for want of a more suitable word, of these two handsome, dominant men, she’d turned into some kind of submissive. Sexually, anyway. She’d read enough romance and erotica novels to know a liking for submission didn’t make a woman weak. It just meant they liked to be bossed around in the bedroom. Outside the bedroom, they were usually no different to how they’d always been. You certainly wouldn’t pass a submissive woman on the street, or bump into her into the supermarket, and automatically label her as a bottom.
If that was what got her going – so what? They were all adults here, and free to do whatever they liked with one another, no strings attached.
Ethan replied to Jeremy. ‘If we have, the tendency must have been buried there beforehand. It doesn’t just happen overnight. Of course, it could just be that she wants to get this over and done with as soon as possible.’
‘Or,’ Jeremy said, narrowing his eyes as he looked at Alice, ‘it could be that she doesn’t want us to delay. She wants to get started with the task as soon as possible. Because she enjoys it. Wants it.’
He walked over to Alice and slipped his hand between her legs, dipping a finger between her labia. ‘Huh. Seems I was right. All she’s done is take her clothes off, and already she’s getting wet.’
Ethan stood and walked over to one side of the room, grasping the rolling ladder which reached up to the very top shelves of the library. He manoeuvred it so it was facing the wall, then locked the wheels. He turned and nodded at Jeremy, who took Alice’s arm and led her over to Ethan and the newly secured ladder. Positioning her in front of the ladder, facing its steps, Jeremy pulled the binds they’d used in the dining room – or at least ones that looked the same – from his pocket and handed one to Ethan.
Between them, they encouraged Alice up the first step of the ladder – mercifully, it was more like a flight of mobile stairs, with flat wooden slats instead of rungs, otherwise it would have hurt her bare feet – then secured her wrists to the handrails. Crooking her neck so she could look under her arm, she could see that she was just a little way off the floor, with her arse pointing out into the room in all its fleshy glory.
She wondered if she was positioned this way so her bottom was in a good spanking position, but she racked her brain to remember this particular task and couldn’t recall any kind of corporal punishment. She pressed her lips together hard to suppress a smirk – if she couldn’t remember, then there was a good chance that this was a nice, straightforward task with nothing untoward involved at all. Except being naked and bound to some rolling steps in a library, of course. And hopefully being given a good seeing-to.
Nobody spoke for a few minutes, but Alice was aware of activity behind her – she suspected it was the two men mouthing plans to one another and using their hands to emphasise their meaning. Though she wasn’t sure why they were bothering to keep it from her if they thought she already knew what was going to happen. Perhaps they’d changed the plan.
Seconds later, her ordeal began. Only it wasn’t an ordeal. That made it sound bad, and what Alice was experiencing was the complete opposite. Jeremy and Ethan were touching her, lightly. The tips of their fingers swept over the back of her body, from head – well, neck – to toe. Gentle caresses that made her want to writhe madly and had all the tiny hairs on her skin standing up on end. The men continued this for some time, until she was quivering with anticipation. Although by that point her entire body had become an erogenous zone, she couldn’t help but wonder when they were going to touch her between her legs, or on her breasts. But she kept quiet – they were running the show, and if past experience was anything to go by, whatever they had planned would be well worth the wait.
Soon, the men upped the ante. They replaced their hands with their mouths. Kissed, licked, and nibbled their way over the skin they’d already sensitised with their fingers. Alice began to wish she was sitting down. All the stimulation was giving her shaky legs. And, despite the fact they hadn’t even been close to it yet – except for Jeremy’s earlier brief touch – her pussy was so wet that juices were leaking down the insides of her thighs. She pressed her thighs together to stop the trickle going any further, and to try and get some stimulation on her severely neglected clit.
