I’d like to welcome the wonderful Bobbie C. Bandy as my guest today. Bobbie’s first book No Smoke Without A Fire, book 1 of The Cougar Club series, was just published in October 2012, and book 2 of the series, House Calls, just released in late February 2013. Though she is fairly new to the ‘published author’ world, Bobbie has been writing since high school.
Please give her a warm welcome as she tells us a little bit about herself and No Smoke Without A Fire. Feel free to leave a comment or two. 🙂
When and why did you begin writing?
I began writing poems in high school. I won a few poetry contests and eventually got a poem published. It wasn’t until about five years ago that I began writing novels.
What is your favorite thing about writing?
Being able to let my imagination run wild. I’ve always had an over-active imagination. It’s nice to let those voices in my head tell their stories.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Not really. I write on the fly most of the time. I don’t sit down and plot out every point. Sometimes, what happens is a surprise to me.
What do you find is the hardest thing about being an author?
Finding time to sit down and write. I work a lot of hours so I have to make time to write. Lately, I’ve noticed that I haven’t been writing as much. I’m going to have to work time into my over-crowded schedule to sit down and get some major writing done on my next novel.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Oh, wow. I love so many authors! I guess my favorite is J. K. Rowling. I love her ability to spin a tale and drag you into her storyline. Her world building is fantastic.
What inspired you to write No Smoke Without A Fire?
I wanted to write something about everyday heroes– firemen, policemen, doctors, etc. and do a ‘cougar’ themed novel. The idea came to me one night while half asleep. The plot started forming in my head and I had to get out of bed to write it down.
Was there anything you found particularly challenging when writing No Smoke Without A Fire?
The same problem I always have, finding time to write.
How did you come up with the title No Smoke Without A Fire?
I was listening to my mp3 while writing and an old song by Bad Company started playing. It was titled No Smoke Without a Fire. I remember thinking, “That would be an awesome title for my book”.
If you were to give your book a Heat Rating, (lowest) 1—simmering, 2—sizzling, 3—on fire, or 4—blazing (highest), which would it be and why?
I’d say 2. It has some heat, but it’s not all ‘between the sheets’. I wanted just enough to throw your imagination into overdrive. 😉
What’s next for you?
NO SMOKE WITHOUT A FIRE is the first book in The Cougar Club series. Book 2, HOUSE CALLS was recently launched by my publisher a couple of weeks ago! Right now, I’m writing book 3, A SHOT IN THE DARK, which I hope to have finished by the end of March. After that, I’ll write the forth, and last book in the series.
Bitter and wary of men after her husband leaves her for a younger woman, forty-year old ER nurse, Beth Sawyer has decided dating isn’t an option. That is until an arsonist’s fire brings Jackson Stanton—a strong, handsome, twenty-seven-year old fireman—to her trauma unit. Despite loathing the title of “Cougar”, Beth finds her attraction to Jackson too strong to resist.
It seems simple at first—a fun fling with the added bonus of payback to her ex-husband. But the more Beth dates Jackson, the stronger her emotions grow. So, too, does the arsonist’s death toll. When suspicion for the fires lands on Jackson, Beth must determine if the man she’s falling for is out to set her body and heart on fire…or has her marked as his next victim.
